We have included some frequently asked questions and answers that will assist you in understanding what we are about. What is Online WA Multicultural Communities Project? The Online WA Multicultural Communities Project is an exciting project initiated jointly by the Office of Multicultural Interests and the Ethnic Communities Council Of Western Australia to enable ethnic community groups and not-for-profit community service organisations to become involved and participate fully in an extensive internet based network known as 'Online WA Multicultural Communities'. How will my community group benefit from being part of 'Online WA Multicultural Communities'? Incorporated ethnic communities and not for profit community groups/organisations participating in this vibrant network will have access to a range of communications facilities and information services including:
Who can be part of the Project? The project was implemented in two phases. Phase one of the project has already been completed with fifty ethnic communities allocated a web site. Phases 2 is open to all incorporated ethnic/multicultural groups and non-profit community organisations across Western Australia and provides additional 400 web sites. This could be your association/organisation's chance to have access to the latest web technology and your own web site. What hardware and software is required to participate in the project? Access to a computer that is connected to the Internet is all you need to be online. Software is available online without the need to installing any applications or files. You can manage and maintain your web site from any computer any where in the world as long as it is connected to the World Wide Web. You don't even need your own computer - just visit your local library or nearest Telecentre How much does it cost? If you were using your own computer, the major cost to you would be your connection to an Internet Service Provider (ISP) and call charges. There are no joining or establishment fees for being part of the Online WA Multicultural Communities Gateway, however, in order to continue to remain part of the project and to receive full access to all the services it provides a minimal annual membership subscription fee will apply. Web site hosting, support and training are provided free of charge. People using computers at Public Libraries or Telecentres would save money by not paying ISP fees. How secure will my site be? Your site is username and password protected and only people having the correct password will be able to edit your site. In addition, there is a verification process involved that material put on your site can not be published unless being verified by an authorized administrator. It is very important that you do not disclose your password to others. Will our organisation receive relevant training? Yes. Each groups will receive free comprehensive training in utilising the software used to create and maintain your web site. Is there any onsite support and advice available? Yes. The Online WA Multicultural Communities Liaison Officer is available to provide onsite support and advice five days a week, should you need it. Want further information?
