![]() ![]() "Thank you for sending me the new issue of the Online Multicultural Communities Newsletter. I found the many articles most interesting and informative. This is a wonderful way of getting messages to our various communities." Jane Brazier. Director General Department for Community Development ![]() Dear Albert The Minister for Planning and Infrastructure, Alannah MacTiernan MLA, has asked me to thank you for your email regarding the Online Multicultural Newsletter, and to reply to you on her behalf. I was pleased to access the first issue of the newsletter for 2004 on your website. The Online Multicultural Newsletter provides an interesting range of articles, which explores so many aspects of our multicultural society. I learned about immigration services and advice (Catholic Migrant Centre), where to see and experience historical Australian Aboriginal Cultural material (The Berndt Museum of Anthropology), the history of Irish people in Western Australia, creating harmony and tolerance towards the Muslim community in Pilbara (Removing the Barriers), and the life of a migrant in Western Australia (Women's Perspective). Your newsletter is a source of hope and inspiration for many immigrants and refugees and unites our diverse population - congratulations! Rob Giles Chief of Staff ![]() Dear Albert, One can never forget the mixed feelings of joy & fear when you have decide to take the huge step of migrating – fear because you are giving up everything that is familiar & precious to you – your first home, homeland, relatives, job & venturing to foreign shores but the challenge & hope of a better future make you take the bold step. There is no doubt that most migrants have inevitably gone through the initial phase when they wonder whether they have made the right choice of migrating as they face numerous inevitable problems in settling down. But take hope, not many migrants are aware of the existence of the CATHOLIC MIGRANT CENTRE which assist migrants and refugees from all over the world irrespective of race, religion or culture. CMC believe and propagates the words of Christ – whatever you do to the least of my brethren, you do unto me. The CMC is a unique Church Agency – only one of its kind in Australia which is funded by grants received from the government and the church. Archbishop Hickey should be commended for the initiative he has undertaken to show understating and compassion for the needs of Migrants and Refugees. It provides a wide range of services to help migrants and refugees in their settlement in a new country. The CMC has steadily built its reputation over the years and is now being invited by the government to participate in a number of its activities. The CMC staff helps migrants by providing a wide range of services in addition to being a shoulder to rely on. So the next time you meet someone, who is in dire need of help, do direct them to the Catholic Migrant Centre, which is based in Central Business District of Perth where the staff will be only too willing to assist them. Melissa and her staff deserve to be congratulated on the work that they are doing for the Migrants and Refugees. We hope that the many people who have received assistance and help over the years will write to your Newsletter and express their gratitude for the assistance received, the concern shown and the care provided for the needs of the Migrants and Refugees. Thank you Melissa. Tricia Sequeira ![]() Back to Letters' menu Your Comments: "Being of Irish descent and the son of an Irishman who formed a very large social network promoting Irish culture in the late 60's to mid 80's. I found the topic very interesting. I also believe for a person not connected to the Irishness experience in WA this is a fascinating insight into what contributions the Irish have made in WA and continue to have. I would like this newletter to continue and highlight other nationalities who also have contributed to this great State. Well done." John Lehane Office of Crime Prevention "This was a great read. It is really quite interesting. I read about some aboriginal people who work there, it was good. thanks for that."
