Profile :: Lizzie Landels
(2005 THIMUN Director)

Lizzie is a 19 year-old Law/Arts student at the University of Western Australia and is extremely passionate about social justice and the expansion of the role of young people in international affairs and politics.

Her involvement with UNYA began in 2000 and has seen her attending the national UNYA conference in Sydney in 2001 and The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN) in 2002. She is extremely excited and honoured to be returning to THIMUN in January 2005 as the Director of the Australian delegation.

Lizzie is also involved with the Foundation for Young Australians in a grant-making capacity and has helped to fund a large number of innovative projects run by young people in our community, aimed at targeting a variety of youth related issues from drug abuse to regional isolation and youth suicide.

With an Austrian-born father who didn’t speak English until the age of 12 and a mother who speaks English, German, French, Italian and Australian sign-language, Lizzie has always been exposed to a different range of cultures and traditions and believes this has allowed her to develop a love of diversity and a desire to travel and better understand peoples beliefs, values and history. In the arts component of her course she has chosen to study German, History and Political Science.
